Quartz 9000 is TotalEnergies' full synthetic passenger car range, built to hold its protective properties across the whole drain interval. It's the full-SAPS range; VW 502.00/505.00, MB-Approval 229.5, BMW LL-01, Porsche A40 and Renault RN0700/RN0710; for vehicles without a particulate filter. Anything with a DPF or GPF needs Quartz INEO instead.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Quartz 9000 safe for a car with a DPF?

No. Quartz 9000 is a full-SAPS oil, which means higher sulphated ash, phosphorus and sulphur levels than a particulate filter can tolerate long-term. Ash builds up in the filter and shortens its service life. If the vehicle has a diesel particulate filter, a petrol particulate filter or SCR, use TotalEnergies Quartz INEO, which is formulated low- or mid-SAPS for exactly that job

What's the difference between Quartz 9000 and Quartz INEO?

The main difference is the SAPS level; INEO is the low/mid-SAPS range for vehicles with exhaust after-treatment; DPF, GPF, SCR, and generally carries ACEA C-grade specs (C2, C3, C5). Quartz 9000 is the full-SAPS range, carrying ACEA A3/B4 or API/ILSAC petrol specs, for vehicles without a filter. Both are full synthetic and both are premium; they're not better or worse, they're just built for different exhaust systems.

What's the difference between Quartz 9000, Quartz 9000 Energy and Quartz 9000 Future?

They're sub-families within the same range. Plain Quartz 9000 is the core A3/B4 European product, best known in 5W-40. Energy adds cold-start flow and fuel economy performance in lower winter grades; 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40, while keeping the same A3/B4 approval level. Future is the modern petrol line built to API SP/SQ and ILSAC GF-6/GF-7 for Japanese, Korean and GM engines, including hybrids and turbo GDI. Always match the sub-family to what the handbook specifies.

Which cars use Quartz 9000 5W-40?

It's the go-to for European petrol and turbo diesel engines without a particulate filter. It carries VW 502.00/505.00, MB-Approval 229.5, Renault RN0700/RN0710 and Stellantis FPW9.55535/10, and is suitable for BMW LL-01 and Porsche A40. In practice that covers a lot of Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, Renault, Peugeot, Citroën and Fiat. Always confirm against the handbook as approvals change between model years.

Is Quartz 9000 5W-40 VW 502 00 approved?

Yes. Quartz 9000 5W-40 carries VW 502.00 and 505.00 approvals, along with MB-Approval 229.5. If your handbook calls for VW 502 00 / 505 00, this is a direct match.

Should I use 5W-30 or 5W-40?

Use what the manufacturer specifies. The first number is cold-start flow and the second is viscosity at operating temperature; a 5W-40 is thicker when hot than a 5W-30. Substituting one for the other changes oil pressure, oil consumption and, on some engines, the behaviour of variable valve timing. The grade is not the whole story either: a 5W-30 to ACEA A3/B4 and a 5W-30 to ACEA C3 are very different oils. Match the grade and the specification.

If I'm only stocking one Quartz 9000, which grade should it be?

[5W-40.] It carries VW 502.00/505.00, MB-Approval 229.5, Renault RN0700/RN0710 and Stellantis FPW9.55535/10, and suits BMW LL-01 and Porsche A40 — which covers most European petrol and turbo diesel work that comes through a general workshop.

However, anything with a particulate filter needs INEO, and modern Japanese, Korean and GM petrol engines need the Future sub-range on API SP/SQ and ILSAC GF-6/GF-7. If you're deciding what to hold on the shelf, tell us your typical vehicle mix and we'll tell you what covers the most jobs with the fewest lines.
